Let’s Begin – An Introduction

Hello.

My name is Roger Overall and this is Cork Foodie’s first post – the beginning of what I hope will be a long, eventful and happy journey.

Does the world need another food blog?

There are lots of food blogs out there. And by lots I mean “about 2,140,000,000”. That’s what Google said when I did a search for the phrase ‘food blog’. That’s plenty enough words already, surely?

Maybe.

The vast majority of those words are devoted to recipes. Which is fine, don’t get me wrong. Instructions are good. I couldn’t poach an egg properly if it hadn’t been for a Heston Blumenthal television programme. (Turns out the secret isn’t a drop of vinegar after all).

The mission here is simple. Before the recipe, there are quite a few other fascinating stages: the growing, rearing, collecting, harvesting and marshalling of the ingredients – in the wild or in controlled conditions. That’s where there are some wonderful, and as yet untold, stories to be found. The stories of the people who make the food.
